Use a straight edge 1 1 2 2 from the crease and score the rug. If the rug is older and is thought to have a high value do not cut the fringe as originality is a factor in collector carpets. Now you are ready to cut. Oriental rugs are typically woven from side to side across the warp strings which means there has to be an end point.

At this stage you don t want to cut all the way through then slowly finish cutting through the rug following the score while pulling up on the part you are cutting off.
